What is EMDR?

And why might you want to consider it.

You may have heard of EMDR. Recently, public figures have been sharing their experiences, and the practice that was born in the 80s is gaining momentum. Here in Spokane, WA, Seeds of Sage Counseling offers residents the tried and tested EMDR process, as well as options with a twist, but what is right for you?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is an 8 phase protocol. To learn more about the phases, check out this blog post that outlines each phase and gives you a sense of what you might expect.

While EMDR is a tried and tested trauma therapy, we continue to find that it is effective for a wide range of symptoms. Meeting diagnostic criteria for PTSD requires a specific set of circumstances, yet, experiences that linger with you may not be considered by the diagnostic manual as traumatic.

Just because a book doesn't define an experience as traumatic does not mean that the impacts are not. When in childhood we are rejected by caregivers and peers it impacts our attachment style and can lead to anxiety, depression, symptoms of personality disorders, and a multitude of other presentations. EMDR treats PTSD, but it treats a lot more, too.

EMDR and Nature-Informed Therapy

At Seeds of Sage Counseling, we value the impact of spending time outdoors. We integrate time in nature into the EMDR process in a way that is support of your therapeutic process. Not only does our office work to create a healing space where the outdoors are brought in, but you also have permission to go out. We allow the meandering trails to hold you and your work as step by step you walk a new path.
